The Church Stretton Town Design Statement
Church Stretton Town Design Statement - December 2007
This Town Design Statement (TDS) applies to the town of Church Stretton only and does not include the neighbouring settlements of All Stretton and Little Stretton. Church Stretton is a small town in the heart of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Part of the town is designated as a Conservation Area.
The main purpose of this document is to provide design guidance taking into account the local distinctiveness and character of Church Stretton. The TDS will enable developers and designers to understand some of the qualities that local people value and be aware of these issues at an early stage of the design process. The statement is based on information gathered from consultations with local people and from a detailed survey of the town carried out during 2005 and 2006.
The underlying principles of the TDS are that it will act as a means of encouraging good design, reinforce local distinctiveness and reject poor design.
