What is Second Homes Council Tax?
Additional funds have been generated in South Shropshire as a result of the increased levy of Council Tax on Second Homes within the District. The County Council and the District Council have combined the increased funds and created the South Shropshire Partnership Opportunity Fund to support local projects across the District.
How will the money be used?
£236,185 per annum of funding has been allocated until March 2010 to the following projects following on from the initial three-year scheme from April 2004 to March 2007.
- Support to South Shropshire Youth Forum £20,000
- South Shropshire Partnership Manager £27,500
- 5 Market Towns Partnerships administration costs £5,000
- SpArC Project Bishop's Castle £30,000
- Support to the work of the Ambition Groups of the Partnership £15,000
- Support to Tenbury Partnership £1,000
- Support to Parish Plans £4,000
- Bishop's Castle Marches Partnership £24,895
- Church Stretton Area Partnership £24,895
- Cleobury Country Partnership £19,000
- Craven Arms Area Partnership £19,000
- Ludlow Marches Partnership £19,000
How can you access the funding?
Funding can be accessed through the Market Towns Partnerships, through the Ambition Groups and grants are available for Parish Plans. Any project must demonstrate that it contributes to the priorities outlined in the South Shropshire Community Strategy document.

Grants through this fund have already been awarded to a number of projects, these include small grants schemes in the following areas:
