Building Craft Skills on an Exchange Visit
Colin Richards, the Council's Conservation Officer, recently took a team of local
builders to Viscri, a town in Romania. They went to exchange craft building skills in
a project that will see a return visit, and that will help restore Ludlow's Town Walls.
South Shropshire District Council has a long tradition of working in the historic
environment to encourage the supply and use of locally-sourced materials as well as
the continuity and application of traditional building and repair skills.
The team achieved so much work in their time in Viscri that the Mayor extended her
heartfelt thanks to the people of the Welsh Marches, South Shropshire Council, and
the Shropshire and Herefordshire colleges that made the project possible.
The fully story can be found in the November 2007 issue of South Shropshire Matters.
