War Memorials
Shropshire War Memorial Association
The Shropshire War Memorial Association aims to:
- Advise and research names from war memorials
- Advise on repairs to war memorials, ie. stonemasons, and where to seek financial help
- Arrange for missing names to be included on local memorials
- Advise on the refurbishment of Rolls of Honour
Achievements of the Association to date include raising funds for three plaques for Shropshire-born Victoria Cross holders.
It raised the funds and completed the installation of a plaque for Lt General Sir Oliver Leese at Worfield, and has arranged the refurbishment of Roll of Honour plaques in Bicton Church, Upton Magna, and St Julian's Shrewsbury.
It has also advised Greater Dawley Parish Council on the new World War II Roll of Honour.
The Association also holds the lists of all Shropshire war dead from the first and second world wars as recorded on local war memorials.
Information is also held on the listed war memorials in Shropshire.
