Your views on play opportunities in South Shropshire
Feedback from the first Stakeholder Event on 06 April 2006
What makes us glad
![]()
- To have been asked!
- To have a lottery offer of £200,000
- To have volunteers who give their time
- To have many good quality pre-school facilities and play areas
- To have Ludlow Youth, Wheeler Road, Sport 2000, skateboard parks & lots more
- To have Tops training
- To have a play strategy
- To have enthusiastic young people
- To be living in South Shropshire where it's safe for young people to grow up
- And we're glad we care!
What makes us sad
![]()
- That there is vandalism & litter
- Play facilities stop for those over 18
- That groups of youths are seen as a threat
- That there is still not enough funding
- That there are not enough young people involved in consultation schemes
- That parks do not have enough supervision
- That school playgrounds cannot be used out of hours for various reasons including fear of litigation
- That the cost of transport is too much
- That policies take too long to action
- That there are too many community safety issues and regulations
What makes us mad
![]()
- Lack of funding
- Dog mess on play areas
- Lack of facility maintenance
- Lack of recognition of the views of the community
- No skateboard park or tennis courts in Ludlow
- Hostility from the older generation towards youths
- Inappropriate play areas for under 10s
- Not enough unstructured play
- Focus only on play areas for able-bodied children
- Empty premises & empty promises
