Supported and sheltered housing - Supporting people
The Supporting People Programme was launched on 1st April 2003. The aim of Supporting People is to help people with low to medium support needs to achieve a better quality of life, by enabling them to live as independently as possible. It funds the revenue costs of providing housing related support to help prevent the kind of problems that may lead to hospital admission, institutional care or homelessnes. It can also help people leaving institurional environments to make the transition to independent living.
The Supporting People Programme draws together Government funding streams that were all designed to enable vulnerable people to maintain their independent living in the community through housing support.
Shropshire County Council administers the Supporting People Programme on behalf of the District Council. This ensures a coordinated Countywide approach to the commissioning and delivery of housing related support services.
