Best of the Marches
Best of the Marches ... Report Produced
South Shropshire District Council recently commissioned a feasibility study into a major new initiative, originally proposed by Enterprise South West Shropshire. Funding for the feasibility study has been provided by the European Objective 2 programme and Advantage West Midlands Rural Regeneration Zone.
Best of the Marches.com is a multi faceted project, offering a new food production centre, a craft centre, and a visitor attraction. The aim of the project is to raise the profile of the excellent quality of locally produced goods, providing space for production, promotion, and selling.
The Council agreed to undertake the feasibility on behalf of partners in South Shropshire. The findings of the feasibility will be discussed at a Special Meeting of the Policy Committee on Tuesday June 8th, at 7pm in the Council Chamber. Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe.
Samantha Hine, the Council's Regeneration Manager, said, ' Best of the Marches.com is an exciting project idea, with many interesting elements in it. It would give South Shropshire the opportunity to build even further on its excellent reputation for quality local goods, including crafts, food and drink.
The Consultants who produced the report tried hard to consult with many people before reaching their conclusions. It is important that further consultation takes place now the report is finalised. The Council will consider the findings and decide where to go next, if anywhere, with the proposal. The Consultants findings suggest that Best of the Marches.com as proposed would cost over £2million. Therefore it will be a major task to identify funding, and we will need to start negotiating with Advantage West Midlands in the near future, if it is decided to take the project further
