How will my housing benefit be paid?
You will get your benefit paid by crossed cheque or by BACS payment. If you ask us to we can pay your benefit directly to your landlord on your behalf.
Important: - If your circumstances change and you may no longer be entitled to benefit you should not cash any cheques you receive from us. You must contact the office immediately and check whether you should return the cheque.
How will I know what the Payment covers?
Every time you receive a payment it will usually represent 4 weeks entitlement to benefit, plus or minus any adjustments we need to make. If your payment has been adjusted we will tell you why.
How often will I get my payment?
You will normally be paid once every 4 weeks, in arrears.
What if I have to pay my landlord every week?
Payments are usually made every 4 weeks. If you have to pay your landlord every week and it would beneficial for your payment to be made every week, let us know and we will see if we can change your payments to weekly. However, we will still only be able to pay in arrears and not in advance.
What if I have to pay my landlord every month?
We do know that receiving your payment every 4 weeks can make things difficult when you have to pay your landlord every month. Unfortunately that is the way we must pay Housing Benefit.
Getting a payment every 4 weeks means that in the course of a complete year (52 weeks) you will get 13 payments. In this way the payments will cover the whole years rent (if you qualify for full benefit).
