Licensing Section - key activities
The Commercial and Administration Teams of the Environment and Community Division deal with the issue of licences under the statutes listed below.
The key activities are:-
Providing advice to potential licensees and members of the public.
Reminding regular licence holders of the need to renew their licence/permit.
Receiving applications, processing payments and maintaining statutory registers.
Consulting with outside organisations, particularly the Police and Fire Authorities, and also with Environment & Community Services staff in the interests of public safety and prevention of nuisance.
Liaising with applicants over additional works required prior to the issue of any licence and ensuring that all policy pronouncements with regard to prior advertisement and the like are complied with.
Arranging for applications of whatever type which cannot be dealt with under the delegated powers to be considered by the Health and Housing Committee, including the preparation of appropriate reports.
Communicating the decision of the Health and Housing Committee to the applicants and ensuring that they are aware of any conditions imposed on the grant of licence or, alternatively, the reasons for any refusal.
Dealing with complaints received against unlicensed premises and breaches of licence conditions.
Ensuring that all complaints are investigated and where necessary enforcement procedures are put in place to bring prosecutions for failure to licence or breach of conditions imposed by a grant of a licence.
