Food Safety
This regulatory service is provided in the interests of Public Health.
In order to ensure that all members of the public can consume food which has been produced under hygienic conditions and without any adverse affects, it is important that a regulatory eye is kept on all food businesses.
Food poisoning and food-borne illnesses reduce the health of individuals, causing death in some cases and give rise to economic loss in many cases.
Safe food is essential for healthy communities and the communities of South Shropshire rely upon the competent experts of this service to ensure that safety.
The service operates to a standard set nationally by the Food Standards Agency.
The service consist of the following elements:
- Registration and inspection of food businesses
- Approval/Licensing of specific food businesses
- Responding to consumer complaints regarding food and food businesses
- Provision of advice to businesses
- Responding to national Food Hazard Warnings
