Abandoned Vehicles

An abandoned vehicle is a vehicle which has been in a location for several weeks with no obvious owner.  Generally abandoned vehicles are untaxed and in a poor condition.

It is at the council employees discretion whether a vehicle is deemed to be abandoned.

The Streetscene team at South Shropshire District Council deals with approx 60 abandoned vehicles a year.  Only 20 of these vehicles have to actually be removed by the District Council.

Initially every vehicle reported to us is inspected and a DVLA trace is done on the registration or chassis number.

Registered Keepers of the vehicle are then contacted requesting them to remove their vehicle. In most cases this encourages the owner to remove their vehicle.

In some cases due to severe vandalism or if the vehicle is unsafe; a vehicle may be removed quickly before contacting the Registered Keeper or serving a notice.
