About Tourism in South Shropshire

Featuring an awe inspiring Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the South Shropshire Hills attract visitors from near and far  - to walk or just to admire our countryside. With a good reputation for food and drink Ludlow and South Shropshire boasts many award winning and Michelin starred restaurants. This coupled with the numerous festivals, events and the outstanding archeological, geological and historical importance of the area make it a great place for a short break.

Tourism is an increasingly important economic contributor to the district of South Shropshire. Tourism benefits local people as well as visitors. Local people can enjoy events and visit attractions, contributing to the economic cycle within their own communities. Vibrant market towns provide services to locals that would struggle to survive without the income from tourists: also family and friends visiting the area can be major contributors to visitor numbers. 23% are employed in the tourism sector as apposed to 13% in agriculture and agricultural related (Shropshire figures)

The District Council works closely with South Shropshire Tourism Association on  both improving the tourism offered to our visitors and encouraging people to stay longer in the area. The District Council focuses largely on the development of tourism in South Shropshire through the Tourism Development Officer. Tourism marketing is carried out by South Shropshire Tourism Association.
