Statutory register - street naming and numbering
New street naming and numbering in South Shropshire is dealt with by the authority's building control section.
When new streets and roads are formed it is the responsbility of building control to co-ordinate the process of naming the new street. The role of street naming and numbering is a statutory function requiring all proposed/suggested names to go through the Council's Development Control committee for ratification. Consultation with the Address Development section of the Royal Mail and the relevant local parish/town council forms part of this process.
New street names must not be used until formally agreed by council.
