Bishop's Castle Marches Partnership
Bishop's Castle Marches Partnership is the name given to an organisation established to drive forward the process of regeneration in the town and its large surrounding area.
The Partnership has produced a Strategic Action Plan for the area, funded by Advantage West Midlands, and with the support of the District Council.
A Steering group of geographical representatives is now in place and looking at ways of implementing the recommendations in the Strategic Action Plan.
The Partnership is made up of local, district and county representatives from the public, private and voluntary sectors. It was formed initially in July 2004 to oversee the implementation of the Strategic Action Plan for the area.
As the town is not included in the Market Towns Initiative funded programme, its funding for projects must be found on a project by project basis. Currently, substantial support (£23,000 p.a.) is being provided to the Partnership via the South Shropshire Opportunity Fund. These are funds raised from the increase in Second Homes Council Tax across the District.
The Bishop's Castle Marches Partnership is the culmination of over two years of hard work by the local community to collectively produce a robust and forward thinking vision for the future.
The vision statement:
'A vigorous community with strong local identity, with local jobs and opportunities for all ages'
