Drainage
Drainage
Much of the rural housing in the district relies on private drainage systems as a result of mains drainage not being available. These systems can cause pollution or nuisance if not maintained correctly. It is the owners or users of private drainage systems who are responsible for their maintenance and repair.
The Pollution Team investigate complaints of insufficient or defective private drainage systems including:
- Blocked private drains or sewers
- Overflowing or leaking cesspits or septic tanks
- Defective soakaways to drainage systems
- Defective or inadequate above ground drainage such as guttering and downpipes
Complaints concerning the public sewerage system are the responsibility of Severn Trent Water Company. The Council have no powers over the public sewerage system (public sewers).
