Nuisances
The Council has a duty to investigate complaints of nuisance from domestic, industrial and agricultural sources. This includes complaints regarding:
- Noise
- Dust, steam or odour
- Smoke and fumes
- The condition of any premises
- Accumulations or deposits
- The keeping of animals
- Light (in certain circumstances)
- Ensuring mineshafts and adits are secured
- Swarming insects (in certain cases)
Complaints of nuisance are often resolved by negotiation or in liaison with other regulators or partner organisations. As a last resort legal notices can sometimes be served requiring the nuisance to be abated.
Advice on nuisances is available from the Pollution Team. Leaflets giving some general advice on nuisance type issues are available from them.
