Pesticide spraying
The spraying of pesticides on farmland is a frequent cause for concern. However, the Council has virtually no powers over this activity, only able to be involved where non agricultural spraying takes place, such as on golf courses.
There is a government agency which deals with the overall safety and use issues around pesticides, the Pesticide Safety Directorate www.pesticides.gov.uk. Their website includes details of how to report pesticide incidents together with other information on pesticides.
The following list summarises where incidents may be reported:
- Farms, Factories, Forestry - effects on people - Health & Safety Executive 0845 3009923
- Garden centres, Golf Courses - effects on people - Envir Health 01584 813386/7/8
- Effects on wildlife, livestock and pets - Wildlife Incident Investigation Scheme 0800 321 600
