Public Registers Held By The Pollution Team
The Pollution team hold 5 Public Registers. The Registers are held because of specific legal requirements. These are either industries we regulate/ control, sites we regulate or we hold a copy of registers on behalf of other organisations such as the Environment Agency.
The Registers
1. Pollution Prevention and Control Act Registers.
This is often called the prescribed processes or permitted installations register. It consists of information about companies we regulate with respect to emissions to air. There are three volumes.
There is also a register of permitted installations (known as A1 installations) which are regulated by the Environment Agency under this legislation.
2. The Radioactive Substances Register.
This is a register about sites that use radioactive substances held on behalf of the Environment Agency.
3. Waste Management Licences.
This is a register of sites with Waste Management Licences held on behalf of the Environment Agency.
4. Contaminated Land Register.
This register contains details relating to contaminated land. It is largely a register of actions such as Notices served, remediation statements by landowners etc. Just because a site is not on the register does not mean that it is uncontaminated. We cannot be aware of the condition of every area of land in the district.
5. Water Supplies Register
Viewing the Registers
Members of the public have the right to view and take copies of information on the registers at any reasonable time. We cannot charge for viewing the registers, though there may be a charge for copying any item on them. We are unable to provide any additional information on Waste Management Licences, the A2 installations and the Radioactive Substances Register as we do not regulate these sites.
We can provide limited additional information on the Pollution Prevention and Control Act Register which is enforced and maintained by the Council or interpretation on entries in this register. There may be a charge for the provision of information and it is recommended that you contact us for further advice specific to your query in this matter.
