The European Parliament has 732 Members who are elected in the fifteen member states of the EU for a five-year term. There are 78 MEPs for the UK. Most of the time, Parliament and the MEPs are based in Brussels where its specialist committees meet to scrutinise proposals for new EU laws.

South Shropshire falls within the West Midlands Region and is represented by 7 UK MEPs.

The European Parliament's office in the UK exists to provide information to the public, the media, government, regional agencies and the business community about the role and activities of the Parliament itself and the European Union more generally. It arranges briefings and seminars, participates in exhibitions, responds to enquiries and facilitates contacts with MEPs.
