Democratic and Members' Services
The main work of this team is to enable the Council to facilitate corporate decision-making in accordance with the law. Much of its work therefore revolves around managing the decision-making process by producing papers, attending meetings and advising elected Members.
The team's key tasks include:
- Producing the agendas, minutes and reports and follow up correspondence for the Council, all standing committees, panels and sub-committees
- Ensuring Members have sufficient relevant information prior to meetings to enable them to determine matters at Committee
- Maintaining the Council's Constitution and Year Book
- Making Orders relating to public rights of way
- Negotiations for the acquisition, letting and disposal of land and premises
- Providing advice on probity and procedure
- Keeping registers of Members' interests
- Processing all Members' claims for allowances
- The Head of Administration and Legal Services is also required to provide advice on the Members' Code of Conduct to Parish and Town Councils, in his capacity as Monitoring Officer for the District.
