About Consultation
Through consultation we seek to:·
- Aid decision making
- Ensure that policymakers stay in touch with the local community
- Develop a better relationship with the public
- Strengthen the Council's community leadership role
- Raise awareness and understanding of services
- Target services to what people want and avoid wasting resources on services that people do not want
- Improve service take-up
- Improve user satisfaction
- Highlight problems in advance arising from proposed changes
- Rejuvenate the local democratic process
What is Consultation?
Consultation is a process of dialogue leading to a decision. It involves:
- Passing information and receiving comments
- Seeking opinion on options before decisions are reached
- Seeking to increase the involvement of local people, communities,
- businesses,voluntary sector etc. in important decisions which impact upon them
- Listening to and learning from local people and communities
Consultation is a statutory duty. By law we have to consult on:
- The annual Best Value Performance Plan
- Service reviews
- Meeting the statutory performance indicators (including user satisfaction surveys)
- Community Planning
- Modernisation of local government
