What is a Complaint
Examples of complaints we will investigate are:
- Complaints about the quality of service you have received;
- Complaints about the Council not delivering a service on time;
- Complaints about us giving you the wrong information;
- Complaints about your treatment by a member of staff (but see (2) below).
What is not a Complaint
There are certain things that our complaints procedure does NOT cover, and you should check that your complaint is not about any of these before you begin.
The following are not grounds for a complaint:
- You disagree with a decision or policy that has been taken or adopted in the proper way;
- You wish to make a personal criticism of Council staff who apply policies or decisions;
- You wish to request a discretionary service that the Council has chosen not to provide.
We will not investigate any complaints made more than twelve months after you first knew about the problem you wish to make the complaint about, unless we think it is reasonable to look into it despite the delay.
Unless you have a problem with the WAY in which the following have been dealt with, you cannot make a complaint about:
- A Council decision to take enforcement or legal action about something;
- Something that has happened because the law requires it;
- A problem where a court decision, or a right of appeal or redress through a court or tribunal exists.
