Council departments
South Shropshire District Council is split into two departments - Corporate Services and Environment & Development.
The main service areas are as follows:
Corporate Services
Admin & Legal Services Section
This section of the Chief Executive's Department covers Democratic and Members' Services, Legal Services, Electoral Registration and Elections.
Elections & Electoral Registration
Both the elections and electoral registration processes have to be undertaken strictly in accordance with rules and regulations set by Parliament. The Council's Chief Executive is the Returning Officer, Acting Returning Officer or Local Returning Officer (dependant on the type of election) for all elections affecting the District. By law, he must ensure that all elections are conducted in accordance with the statutory timetables.
Regeneration and Partnerships
Regeneration is a broad service area covering economic development, tourism, community development and funding opportunities; local, regional, national and European. The Regeneration Team can help to identify funding and grant opportunities for businesses and community groups.
Leisure Services Section
South Shropshire District Council seeks to encourage and increase the participation in sports, physical education, arts and leisure pursuits by pursuing a range of objectives including the provision of additional facilities, supporting leisure & arts groups, improving the standards of performance and developing excellence.
Revenue Services Section
Revenue Services is primarily responsible for the administration and collection of Council Tax, Non Domestic (Business) Rates and Housing and Council Tax Benefit. It also has responsibility for the administration of the Council's off street car parks, deals locally with Ludlow's Residents Parking Scheme on behalf of Shropshire County Council and has responsibility for Concessionary Travel.

Human Resources and Corporate Policy.
Financial Services Section
Financial Services primarily a statutory service under the Local Government Act, 1972, the Local Government & Housing Act 1989 the Accounts & Audit Regulations, 1983, as amended by the Accounts & Audit Regulations, 1996.
Internal Audit Section
Internal Audit is an independent appraisal function, providing an assurance on the effectiveness of the internal controls operating within the authority, as an aid to management.
IT Services Section
Information Technology plays a fundamental role in the smooth running of South Shropshire District Council and many departments depend on IT support for efficient service provision.
Environment and Development
Environment and Community Services
This Service covers a number of subject areas , provided by specialist teams including Health and Safety, Contaminated Land. Food Safety, Licencing, Housing and Waste Services.
Planning & Building Control Section
This Service covers Planning Policy, Development Control, Historic Buildings, Enforcement, Building Control and Land Charges.
Property Services Section
Property Services provides in house support services for all the departments of the authority to a greater or lesser extent and also provides services in its own right. The Services is also the first point of contact for the letting of:- Workshops, Light industrial units, Offices and the sale of industrial land.
