About South Shropshire District Council

South Shropshire District Council was established in April 1974 and is one of five District/Borough Councils within the County of Shropshire, the others being

  • Bridgnorth District Council
  • North Shropshire District Council
  • Oswestry Borough Council
  • Shrewsbury and Atcham

Shropshire operates a two-tier structure of service provision with South Shropshire District Council being responsible for a number of services including car parking, collection of council tax and non-domestic rates, concessionary bus fares, regeneration, environment health, housing, public conveniences, sport, arts and leisure, planning and building control, elections/ electoral registration, community safety, community planning and waste collection.

Strategic service provision is provided by Shropshire County Council, which is responsible for a number of services including education, social services and highways.

South Shropshire District Council, in partnership with Shropshire County Council and the other District Councils in Shropshire, have produced a joint A to Z of District and County Council services. This will assist citizens in finding the information required without needing to know who provides the service.
