Pollution control - noise
The Council has a duty to investigate complaints of noise nuisance.This includes complaints regarding:
- Barking dogs
- Loud music
- Car and property alarms
- Noisey DIY
- Industry
- Machinery and equipment
- Construction sites
The Council has very few powers over noise from vehicles on the highway or from aircraft.
Complaints of nuisance are often resolved by negotiation or in liason with partner organisations. Where necessary legal notices can be served under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Control of Pollution Act 1974.
