Pollution Control - Part B Installations
Certain industrial sites are regulated directly by the Council because they have the potential to emit certain pollutants. These sites have permits to operate issued by the Council. The permits specify conditions aimed at reducing emissions to air. These industries pay a fee to the Council to obtain a permit plus an annual charge. These charges, which are set by central government are designed to reflect the costs of processing permit applications and regulating these installations.
Applications for new installations or substantial changes to most installations are advertised by the operators in the local press and comments on applications are welcome.
There is a public register which provides information on these installations. It includes:
- the permit application form
- the permit
- conditions that apply to the operation of the installation
- monitoring data (if required)
- any legal notices served on the installation by the council
Applications for a permit should be made on the appropriate application form available from the Council on the above number or from the link below.
