Pollution control - Light Pollution
The Council has recently gained limited controls over some forms of light pollution under new legislation. Artificial light that is emitted from premises may now be a Statutory Nuisance if it unreasonably interferes with another person's use of their own land or property. However, the law does not allow action against light from certain premises such as railway premises, bus stations, and defence premises. Industrial or sports premises also have certain legal defences against action the Council can take.
Complaints regarding light pollution may be made to the Pollution Team using the above contact details.
