Council tax - how much will I have to pay?
The Valuation Office Agency puts the property into one of eight Bands according to its value on the open market as at 1st April 1991. The Government has indicated that properties will be re valued as at 1st April 2005 and new bands will be introduced in 2007.
The charge is based on a 50% property element and 50% personal element. The personal element is based on two or more people over 18 living permanently at the property.
In certain circumstance the bill can be reduced through discounts, exemptions, disabled band reductions and/or Council Tax benefit.
Each year, usually in March we send out a bill to all households which sets out what your charge and instalments will be from 1st April.
If payments are not kept up to date we can take legal action to recover the debt which could add court costs to your account.
If your circumstances change which affects your Council Tax liability you should contact the Revenue Services section immediately.
