Street cleansing
Street cleansing in South Shropshire is undertaken in accordance with the Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
The councils duty is to ensure that their land (or land for which they are responsible) is, so far as is practicable, kept clear of litter and refuse.
To monitor street cleansing in South Shropshire the Streetscene team has a target of 300 street inspections to undertake every month.
Frequency of cleansing
Cleansing of towns within South Shropshire, such as Craven Arms, Bishops Castle, Church Stretton, Cleobury Mortimer are Clun; is undertaken on at least a weekly basis.
Ludlow town centre is cleansed every morning (Monday to Friday) and the large road sweeper visits the town twice a week.
Other public highways, such as main roads, are cleansed on a regular basis although the frequency depends on the area and level of littering.
Report a problem to the council
We encourage members of the public to contact us if they notice a cleansing problem, such as litter or dog fouling, so that we can inspect the area and arrange for it to be cleansed as soon as possible.
